A truck driver is facing drunk driving charges after being involved in a deadly accident. Police say that the trucker was drunk while driving on the Cross Bronx Expressway in New York. He struck a small car, killing the driver, and then fled the scene of the accident. He was soon apprehended by police. Truck accidents such as this often leave a lot of devastation behind.
The truck struck a sedan at around 2:30 am, crushing the car until it was unrecognizable. The 23-year-old driver of the transfer truck was nearing the ramp to the George Washington Bridge when his rig smashed into the car. The car's 25-year-old driver was killed immediately, and 2 passengers were in critical condition. The driver of the truck drove off and left the accident victims there.
The 28-year-old and 39-year-old female passengers were taken to a nearby hospital as soon as rescue workers could get to them. Sections of the George Washington Bridge had to be closed off to traffic as the debris from the wreck was cleared. This caused serious traffic jams during the morning rush.
The truck driver was tracked down by officers from New Jersey and from the Port Authority of New York. He was found at a rest stop in New Jersey, smelling of alcohol. A Breathalyzer test confirmed that he was inebriated. There was also obvious evidence of a recent accident on the front of his semi.
In New York, when truck accidents result in death or serious injuries, the victims or their loved ones may be entitled to compensation for their injuries or loss.
